James Milner could start next season at any of three top clubs in England, after being heavily linked with a trio of red-wearing teams in the previous 24 hours. One is Liverpool, the club Milner has been heavily linked with over the last few months, while another is Manchester United, with Ed Woodward having reportedly inquired about the possibility of signing Milner for The Red Devils, according to the Mirror.
Now Sky are reporting that Milner may also be in talks with Arsenal as well as Liverpool but neglected to mention United. The Gunners had previously been linked with a move for the midfielder, but were thought to be second in the running to Liverpool, and on the whole links of Milner to Arsenal had stopped appearing in the press.
The allure of Arsenal is clear, with Milner likely to get games there and there’s also the attraction of living in London. Liverpool and United can’t offer that, but there’s the possibility of a heap of playing time and probably even the central role that Milner allegedly wants – City can’t provide this, hence why he won’t sign a new contract without assurances from Manuel Pellegrini that he’ll play regularly in a central midfield role.
Sky are also reporting that Milner will wait until after international duty to make a decision on his future, at which point he will inform the successful club of his choice.
