Manchester City may have a “serious” interest in Sevilla manager Unai Emery according to Spanish publication AS, with Pellegrini’s future yet to be decided say the paper, despite him repeatedly saying that he was confident he’d still be City manager next season. Emery has just won his second Europa League title in as many years, which comprises both of his full seasons with the La Liga side.
AS believe that Emery’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has already been in contact with Txiki Begiristain about the possibility of his client becoming the next City boss after two continental successes with his current team, and the Spanish paper also believe that City are yet to make a decision on Manuel Pellegrini despite him looking likely to see out the final year of his deal and leave in 2016.
Emery is believed to be on the shortlists for a number of clubs, including Real Madrid – although Rafa Benitez is likely to be appointed ahead of the current Sevilla boss – and both Milan sides; although, one would assume that Emery would want to step into a move successful side given his record with Sevilla. Whoever does approach him – be that City or another team – will have to pay €1.5 million to release him from his Sevilla contract. However, if City truly do want to appoint Unai Emery, then that fee is likely to be of small hindrance to The Blues; the real problem is whether they want to keep Manuel Pellegrini.
