Prior to City facing Toronto in a friendly on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, Manuel Pellegrini has seemingly failed to rule out the possibility of him managing in Major League Soccer later in his career, possibly also hinting that he could take over at New York City with Manchester City already having a link with their American counterparts.
Pellegrini is widely expected to see out his contract at The Etihad, which expires next summer. This is a far cry from just a few weeks ago, when many expected him to be sacked at the end of the season and replaced by someone like Carlo Ancelotti. However, with City unable to lure Pep Guardiola until 2016 (although they do allegedly have a promise from the Spaniard that he will join in 12 months), The Blues now seem willing to let Pellegrini have the final year of his contract before letting him go in 2016.
City are currently in North America for friendlies against Toronto on Wednesday and then Houston Dynamo a day later (although that game may or may not get called off), and Pellegrini seemingly didn’t rule out an MLS move at some point, saying “you don’t know what will happen in the future. It’s a league that is improving, that is growing every year.”
He also hinted that because his current team have a link with one of this year’s MLS Expansion sides, he could manage them, saying “we have now an important link with New York City, you never know what happens.”
Pellegrini will take his squad to Yankee Stadium this weekend, where they’ll watch NYCFC take on Houston Dynamo in the Bronx, with New York City currently without a win since March. Hopefully that’ll change in front of the Chilean and his squad, and Shay Facey will be hoping he gets the chance to impress, with the defender currently on loan at the Eastern Conference side.
