Dani Alves could now be set to sign for Manchester City this summer, with Txiki Begiristain reportedly very keen to complete a deal for the right-back, whose contract at Barcelona runs out this summer, despite the Brazilian having a good season and being named in a Team of the Year by Spanish newspaper Marca recently.
Another Spanish publication, Sport, have stated that City is now the most likely destination for Dani Alves after seven years in Catalonia, with Begiristain keen to work with the 32-year-old for a second time, having already had him on the books when Txiki was with the La Liga club.
In recent weeks, Alves had been heavily linked with a move to several clubs, including Manchester United, although Txiki would likely be able to use his relationship with the right-back in order to convince him to join City.
This deal may seem unlikely to some, given that Alves turned 32 this month, yet would still likely command a fairly high wage. He may be seen as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, who has been labelled a failure by some sections of the City support after a somewhat disappointing season, especially given the size of his pay packet. However, if City were looking to replace the French right-back, one would imagine they’d be looking for someone younger, who could eventually take over from Pablo Zabaleta – despite his lion-like attitude, he isn’t getting any younger. However, if Txiki wants Alves, then Alves is likely to be high on our transfer shortlist.
