Opposition View: Southampton

We spoke to Ben Elton of fellow Fresh Press UK site Read Southampton, dedicated to Southampton, ahead of Sunday’s final league game of the season against The Saints.

How has Ronald Koeman coped in his first season in England?

I don’t think you can say a bad word about him. He’s adapted brilliantly to the Premier League and has got the side playing great football and made them hard to beat too.

Have you been pleased with Southampton’s performance this season?

In the first half of the season, it was pretty unbelievable. We didn’t lose to anyone below us – that’s where we’ve been strong; beating the teams that we should beat. Second half we’ve tailed off slightly but we’ve still had some great results since January – beating Man United away and thrashing Villa last week.

Who do City need to look out for on Sunday?

Super-Mane. He’s the threat going forward – last week was him at his best. Personally, I think Shane Long has been improving constantly throughout this season so I’m backing him to bag a goal this weekend.

Where do you think City could target on Sunday?

Pass the ball to Aguero or Silva – even though we’ve got the joint best defence in the league, those two can do some damage. If I had to point out one weak link, I’d say Steven Davis’ performances have not been what they were at the start of the season – Schneiderlin missing in front of the defence could be key.

Finally, a prediction?

I’m going with 2-2. City are guaranteed second so don’t think they’ll be completely with it but not sure we can quite get the three points.
