Raheem Sterling’s agent has fueled speculation of an Anfield departure this summer by claiming his client wants to leave Liverpool.
The Sterling saga has been well under way for some time now and the most explosive development in the story arrived today.
Speaking exclusively to the London Evening Standard, the England hotshot’s agent has revealed that the 20-year old would refuse any sort of new contract offered to him, even if he was handed an offer consisting of nearly £1 million a week.
Former QPR academy product Sterling, considered to be one of Europe’s leading talents, has already rejected a massive £100,000-a-week deal and appears desperate to leave.
The player has come under immense scrutiny for the way he has handled negotiations with his employers, and the extortionate amount of money Sterling has turned down. A host of pundits alike have openly criticised Sterling and advisers, and today the forward’s agent has come out with a strike of his own.
Ward told the Standard: “I don’t care about the PR off the club and the club situation. I don’t care.
“He is definitely not signing. He’s not signing for £700, £800, £900 thousand a week. He is not signing.
“My job is to make sure I do the best with them (my clients). If people say I am bad at my job, or they are badly advised it does not matter.”
Sterling, who was recently booed as he collected Liverpool’s Young Player of the Year award, would surely attract a host of top European Clubs – having risen to prominence over the last couple of seasons.
But Ward said Sterling would not be moving to the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, instead implying that Chelsea or Manchester City, who are believed to be the frontrunners for his signature, as a more likely destination.
“I am not worried. Worried is making a decision not knowing what is going to happen. Every Premier League club will make a bid for him.”
