Contrary to reports on Wednesday, The Express believe that Carlo Ancelotti will take the City job in the summer with the Italian manager expected to be sacked by Real Madrid in the coming days, despite winning the Champions League with the Spanish club just a year ago.
Gianluca Di Marzio had previously reported on his website that City had reduced their interest in Carlo Ancelotti after receiving a ‘promise’ from Pep Guardiola that he would join City at the end of his Bayern Munich contract in 2016, which came after even more reports that Ancelotti had already agreed to join City this summer, giving his decision to the hierarchy at The Blues back in April.
The Express believe that Ancelotti is set to snub other clubs in order to sign on at Eastlands, although this would seem somewhat unlikely unless City have lost interest in pursuing Pep Guardiola in 2016. Or, in a far more unlikely scenario, Ancelotti has agreed to only manage City for a year, which isn’t a position most managers like to be in. You’d also think that there’d be enough clubs clamouring for Carlo that he wouldn’t need to take a one-year contract at City, and could build a side somewhere else.
There’s no doubt about Carlo Ancelotti’s ability and success as a manager, but there are some who would rather have a younger manager who could build a dynasty and be here for some years to come. However, Ancelotti is only 55 and does still have time left to succeed over a sustained period. Although, in some eyes, he’ll never be as good a signing as Guardiola could be.
Some people are still in the mindset Pellegrini should stay. Read Ben Warner’s column on why he should, here.
