Pep Guardiola may have finally agreed to become Manchester City manager in 2016, according to Di Marzio of Sky Italia. There had been speculation for months – years even – that City would approach Guardiola for the position of manager at some point in the foreseeable future, according to the Italian journalist they may finally have got their man.
2016 has of course been selected due to it being the date Guardiola’s contract with Bayern Munich expires, as well as being the year Pellegrini’s current deal expires too. The convenience of those dates suggests this may have been the plan for City all along, although some believed that The Blues may move their plans forward a year after the poor season at Eastlands this year.
We must be wary of believing Di Marzio however, for as reliable as he can be at times, he was one of the first to report Falcao would sign for City last summer, and we all know how that ended. That fact will be at the back of everyone’s minds however, with the prospect of Pep Guardiola arriving at The Etihad undoubtedly already making people excited with anticipation.
Of course, no deal has yet been signed between City and Guardiola, and it is just a “promise” at this stage according to Di Marzio, although few would expect him to renege on his promise, especially if City can provide him with the squad and the funds to build a successful team.
