City could be plotting a move for Saido Berahino this summer according to The Star, with the tabloid reporting The Blues could bid up to £20 million for the West Brom striker who has garnered a lot of praise for The Baggies over the last two seasons, and has been linked with a number of top clubs in recent months.
This news comes just days after reports the England youth international was set to be offered a new contract at The Hawthorns, although it’s difficult to see him passing up a move to a big club in order to further his blossoming career.
The first reports that City were interested in the Burundi-born striker came last season, after the youngster scored for Albion at Old Trafford in a win for the Midlands side, but since then links have petered out and he’s been more regularly mentioned alongside Liverpool or Arsenal.
Of course, one of the big benefits to signing Berahino is the fact that he’s homegrown and young. He’s lived in England since he was 10, when he fled Burundi’s civil war, and joined West Brom soon after moving to this country. However, the large fee and the fact that City already have talented strikers in the form of Sergio Aguero, Wilfried Bony, and so on, may suggest that there is little to the link, and we won’t be seeing Berahino in a sky blue shirt next season.
