Manchester City may be one of a number of clubs chasing Barcelona’s Alex Song according to the Telegraph, with the Catalan club reportedly willing to let the former Arsenal midfielder leave either permanently or temporarily this summer, after his move to Spain in 2012 didn’t pay off for the Cameroonian.
Song joined West Ham on loan last summer, and while initially there were rumours he could make his move permanent in the coming summer, he looks likely to depart Upton Park at the end of his loan move and return to Catalonia – even if it’s only for a short time.
The Telegraph believe that a number of Serie A clubs are the ones showing most interest in signing Alex Song, but due to his status as a homegrown player City and Chelsea could also make a move to sign the 27-year-old. While there are many players City fans would rather sign, Song would be a relatively cheap and useful addition to the squad, and would provide additional backup to the middle of midfield.
It should be clear to many that Song has ability, as he showed in the first half of this season and when he was with Arsenal. Making the move to Barcelona was probably the wrong move for the Cameroonian international, and hindered his development at a time when he was still a fairly young player.
Alex Song has made 30 appearances for The Hammers this season, scoring no goals.
