Manchester City are reportedly keen on moving for Everton defender John Stones in the summer, according to the Mail.
With the likes of James Milner and Frank Lampard no longer expected to be around next season, the Blues are in serious need for some youthful, British talent and the England youngster fits the criteria perfectly.
The former Barnsley man has cemented his place at the heart of the Everton backline this season, keeping both club captain Sylvain Distin and the experienced Antolin Alcaraz out of the side.
A series of impressive displays in the current campaign has prompted interest from some of the Premier League’s elite.
Chelsea are believed to be long-term admirers of the defender and were rumoured to be in for Stones in the summer. They look to have renewed their interest this time around, but City are also keen on the player.
If anything, the defence has been the achilles heel for Manuel Pellegrini’s men this summer and that is something the club are expected to address in the summer.
Equally adept at right-back as he is in the centre of defence, Stones would be a worthwhile investment as one of the league’s blossoming talents. As a bonus, he would come in and add to the homegrown quota that City so desperately need to concentrate on this summer.
However, Everton have no desire to sell the 20-year old, who agreed a new £30,000 a week, five-year deal last year.
But as we know, if a tasty offer is tabled, then it might be too much for the Toffees to turn down.
Is John Stones the sort of player that City should be targeting?
