According to reports on Sunday, Chelsea could be set to make a double swoop for two City first-teamers in the coming transfer window, with the two players in question being Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko, according to the Express and Mirror respectively.
The Express believe that the Premier League club who have reportedly contacted Yaya’s agent Dimitri Seluk are Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho of the belief that Yaya still has the appetite to compete in the Premier League, despite his perceived lack of effort at times this season. The Express also believe City will try to recuperate at least £10 million for Yaya, £10m which would surely be put towards signing someone of the calibre of Paul Pogba, a reported target for The Blues this summer.
Over in The Mirror, they believe Jose Mourinho wants to sign Edin Dzeko from City, as a replacement for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, whose contract expires at the end of the season. Once again, he would likely cost the London side around £10 million, a £17 million loss on the fee City paid for the Bosnian striker back in 2011.
Due to the impacts both players can have on a game, City may prefer to sell Dzeko and Yaya abroad (if they are indeed leaving) rather than to a Premier League rival, in case they had some great effect and won Chelsea another league title. However, if City would be willing to let Dzeko and Yaya go, then there must surely be replacements in the pipeline.
