Swansea host Manchester City at the right time it seems, as we’re in a terrific run of form with three straight wins against Newcastle, Stoke and most impressively Arsenal. Monday night’s win at the Emirates has proven that the Swans can be adaptable in their playing style and there’s genuine optimism that we can cause another upset on Sunday, despite the Blues acquiring a great run of form themselves.
With a victory on the weekend and other results going our way, Swansea could be in a Europa League spot going into the final day of the season and that would top an amazing season in South Wales. Although, it’ll be very tough in the huge challenge to keep the superb City attacking talent at bay. Looking back to last week’s 6-0 win over QPR and I do fear the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva running ragged. And not to mention ex-Swan Wilfried Bony who’s returning to the Liberty Stadium after leaving in January following a very successful year and a half in Swansea. It’s surely in the script that Bony will come on and score against his former team-mates, but I just hope he doesn’t hit top-form which he showcased week-in week-out at the Liberty – otherwise we’re in for a long game.
City’s attack is definitely the strong point but I’ve got to say their defence is a weakness. And if match-winner Bafetimbi Gomis is fit enough to start, he could worry the edgy Demichelis and Mangala at the back. Jefferson Montero will look to be the busiest player on the pitch as ever, and will give Zabaleta a hard 90 minutes. Jonjo Shelvey was untouchable in the last home game against Stoke and he’ll be looking to imitate that performance in which he assisted the only two goals of the game. I think it will be a very good game of football with two attractive sides scrapping it out until the final whistle. I’m hoping Aston Villa can grab three points against Southampton on Saturday and then for us to gain a point against Man City, and with that I’d be perfectly happy.
