Wolfsburg have denied interest in re-signing Edin Dzeko, after reports came out that they could want to bring back the Bosnian who first caught the eyes of City playing for the Bundesliga side, a little over four years ago now.
Dzeko has frequently been linked with a move away this season, thanks to a general lack of playing-time due to injury. The recent introduction of Wilfried Bony into the squad doesn’t bode well for the Bosnian either, and with not long left in his prime it’s easy to see him leaving the club in the foreseeable future, with a “big club” his preferred destination (at least if you believe his agent).
It seems logical that a move back to Wolfsburg would be a good move for the 29-year-old. He won a Bundesliga title there, and was the league’s top scorer in 2009. 66 goals in 111 games is an impressive record for almost any striker. However, sporting executive at Wolfsburg, Klaus Allofs, came out to call the interest “nonsense”, presumably given that Dzeko won’t be overly cheap for whoever wants to buy him, and is already 29. With Wolfsburg already boasting players like Bas Dost in attack, and having announced the signing of Max Kruse from Gladbach a couple of days ago, it seems that Dzeko won’t be on his way back to Wolfsburg this summer regardless of what Allofs says, although he could still leave the club.
