It had been rumoured for some time that Yaya Toure could find himself in Serie A next season, although it now seems he may not end up quite where everyone thought, with The Guardian now reporting that Manchester City want to use the Ivorian in a swap deal with Juventus for Paul Pogba.
It had been widely thought that the main candidates for signing Yaya this summer were Internazionale, with Roberto Mancini expressing his desire to sign the midfielder more than once in recent months. He could well have been on his way as well, but using Yaya in a swap deal seems much better value, especially when you consider the price of Paul Pogba.
At around £70 million, Pogba likely represents one of the priciest signings The Blues could make in the coming window, and it does look like he could be coming. With Financial Fair Play now in place, using Yaya in a swap deal could make everything more economical for The Blues.
However, Yaya’s age does mean the deal has some disadvantages for Juve. He doesn’t have long left in his prime (if any time at all) and while some may see him as a short-term replacement for Pogba, the Serie A side would almost certainly have to go out and buy another player within a couple of years. Although, that could be easily accomplished with the amount of money City will still have to play for Pogba, even if Yaya Toure does play some part in the deal.
Other players who could possibly also be included in a deal for the French midfielder include Samir Nasri, Stevan Jovetic, Aleksandar Kolarov and Edin Dzeko – at least according to the Guardian.
