After speculation in recent months, concrete evidence has now been given as to City’s interest in Paulo Dybala, with Palermo’s president naming The Blues among a list of clubs interested in signing the Serie A club’s young star this summer.
Since signing for Palermo from Instituto in 2012, Dybala has made a name for himself as one of Europe’s hottest young talents, chasing by many of the continent’s biggest clubs, with City reportedly being one of them. Now, in an interview with La Repubblica in Italy, Maurizio Zamparini has revealed at least some of the interested parties.
“There is strong interest in him. In Italy there’s Juventus, Inter and Milan. Meanwhile in Europe there’s Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, as well as Manchester City, who would like to try and get him but must sell first for Financial Fair Play.”
As Zamparini mentions, FFP does put restrictions on the possibilities of signing a player who has been compared to Sergio Aguero in the past, but it can also be said that if they really want him they’ll be able to find the money somewhere.
A deal could be on the cards within a matter of days regardless of who Dybala is destined for, with Zamparini saying “I have asked Iachini not to play Dybala in these last few games.”
“It’s possible that in the next eight to ten days we will sell the player, and I want to avoid injuries in this very delicate phase.”
According to The Express, Dybala would likely cost just under £30 million, although hopes of signing him have been boosted by the fact he rejected a new Palermo contract a matter of months ago.
