John Guidetti could be about to make the move to the continent in the summer, with the Manchester Evening News reporting Sporting Lisbon are close to snapping up the Swede who has endured a mixed loan spell at Celtic Park this season, although that hasn’t stopped interest in the striker.
It is widely expected Guidetti will depart Eastlands in the summer, which is a shame given how highly he was rated a couple of seasons ago, especially during his superb loan spell at Feyenood. Unfortunately, it was at Feyenoord that he would pick up a bad, bad injury from some infected chicken, with that injury keeping him out for over a year. Since then, he’s suffered injuries and a lack of game-time and it now looks like the extreme amount of potential it seemed he had won’t come to fruition in Manchester.
Some had expected John Guidetti to make his temporary switch to the re-crowned Scottish champions in the summer, whilst there have also been reports he could be a target for clubs in Holland, which has always been rumoured. However, it seems Sporting Lisbon, currently sitting 3rd in Liga NOS, could be bidding to bring the Swede to the Portuguese capital. The MEN are reporting that they’ve offered Guidetti a signing-on bonus of £2.3 million, in an effort to ward off the interests of other clubs in the running for him.
Whilst the 23-year-old striker surely would have liked to make a name for himself in the City first team, Sporting Lisbon is a great opportunity for him to kick on and get his career well and truly on track.
