One of City’s most-talented and best-loved stars could be on his way out of the club soon, with Spanish newspaper Sport reporting that Barcelona have held discussions about the Blues starlet, as they look to make moves for three Spaniards based in Manchester – the other being United’s Ander Herrera and Juan Mata, with Wayne Rooney also on their supposed list of targets.
The transfer ban currently imposed on the Spanish giants means they won’t be able to sign Silva or any of their other targets in the coming window, but that hasn’t stopped them allegedly drawing up a list of targets with City’s Spanish star near the top for when the embargo on transfers expires for the January 2016 window.
Sport believe The Blues are to have a big clear-out of their squad this summer, with ambitions for a younger, home-grown squad on everyone’s mind at the minute. City currently have one of the highest average squad ages in the Premier League, which has led to many, many links in recent weeks to young and upcoming players. David Silva turns 30 next January, and only a fool would claim he hasn’t been worth the £26 million City paid for him back in 2010. It’d be sad to see him go, but soon the brilliant Spaniard will have to hand the midfield reins to someone who is younger.
