Reports: Denayer to have Championship loan

Jason Denayer’s future could lie in England next season, although perhaps not where some City fans would want – or indeed, expect – it to. The Daily Mail believe that after the Belgian’s successful year in Scotland, he’ll now make a temporary switch to England’s Championship as he looks to increase his footballing expertise before becoming a permanent fixture in City’s squad, as many expect him to.

Of course, some were hoping and expecting him to do just that starting this summer, having garnered high praise during his time with the Scottish giants, playing 40 games in all competitions for The Hoops this year, scoring 6 goals. In the process of that, he was announced as the winner of Celtic’s Young Player of the Season prize last week, far outshining another City loanee at Celtic in John Guidetti.

However, he could still be considered unready by the City hierarchy, who will reportedly block any attempt by the Scottish club to renew Denayer’s loan deal, with the Championship the preferred destination for The Blues man, although he did admit he’d be happy to return to Celtic.

And whilst some may be disappointed the Belgian – who made his international debut filling in for the red-carded Vincent Kompany recently – likely isn’t spending next season at Eastlands, hopefully it assures that he will have regular playing time next year, something he couldn’t be sure of at City. At this stage of his career, with the potential he has, playing time is vital.
