Sinclair wants permanent Villa switch

Scott Sinclair’s time at City could finally be coming to an end this summer, with the Daily Mail reporting the winger is keen to make the temporary switch to Aston Villa a permanent one come the next transfer window, after he’s enjoyed the three months he’s spent at Villa Park on loan.

When he signed in 2012, Scott Sinclair allegedly couldn’t get an answer from Roberto Mancini when he asked the Italian manager why he’d signed Sinclair, and since then he’s been somewhat of an outcast at Eastlands, which the majority of the few appearances he’s made coming as late substitutes, with most coming in his first season at the club – that year, he only managed to play 190 minutes of league football for City.

Since then, he’s had two loan spells to the Midlands with West Brom and now Aston Villa, with both loan deals having the option to make the deal permanent. He was unable to break into the side at the Hawthorns last season and played just 8 league matches for The Baggies, featuring more heavily in the reserve side. However, it’s a different story at their rivals Aston Villa.

He joined a struggling Aston Villa side late in the January transfer window after weeks of negotiating between City and Villa, and since then has enjoyed a good few months, even reaching an FA Cup Final with his new team in the past weekend. The winger has enjoyed himself so much in fact, that he’s come out and said “I feel at home at Villa, it’s a great club, I’m sure at the end of the season we can sit down and I can sign. Definitely.”

With the loan deal with Villa including an option for the Birmingham-based side to sign Sinclair for £2.5 million – a £3.7 million loss for City – it’s difficult to see the former Chelsea and Swansea man being at the club past this summer, especially with his contract expiring in 2016. And it’s a shame to say that he won’t be going down as a great at City, but many will be hoping he can get his career back on track at Villa Park (or wherever he ends up).
