Vincent Kompany’s season could be all but over after it was feared he may be out for a month with the thigh injury he picked up in the derby at Old Trafford on Sunday, an injury which saw him brought off during half-time for Eliaquim Mangala.
Kompany may have injured his thigh going in for a challenge on Daley Blind late in the first half, a challenge which could have seen him walking off with a red card, although the Belgian skipper was only given a yellow – much to the protests of swathes of United fans. Milliseconds before making that challenge, Kompany was clutching his thigh as he went in, and he was substituted during the break, to the surprise of many.
If the fears are true, Kompany may be out until the final game of the season, with City’s Champions League qualification still not assured and some tough games in the remainder of the season. Of course, for some people the loss of Kompany may not be such a disappointment, with the Belgian having not had the best season of his life.
With Kompany out, we’re likely to see Eliaquim Mangala partner Martin Demichelis in the centre of defence for much of the remainder of the season.
