With City being linked with more and more players in recent weeks, it seems they could now be interested in signing Liverpool star Coutinho, and recruiting him as The Blues attempt to return to the lofty heights of last season in the next campaign.
The Manchester Evening News believe the club has been impressed with Coutinho since he signed for Liverpool in January 2013, with two great performances coming in the fixtures between City and Liverpool at Anfield in the last two years (he scored the winner in both games).
Now, The Blues may attempt to kick off their summer with a £35 million move for the Brazilian, a move which would surely be more widely-accepted among the City faithful than moves for Jack Wilshere or Coutinho’s Liverpool teammate Jordan Henderson. City could also attempt to raid Anfield twice this summer, for the MEN believe they are also still tracking Raheem Sterling’s situation on Merseyside.
While selling Coutinho could represent a profit of almost £30 million on the former Internazionale midfielder (signed for £7.5 million when he joined The Reds), there is a strong argument to be made that they don’t want to sell – why would they? He could lead the charge back to regular Champions League football for Liverpool, and aged 22 he still has a lot of untapped potential that is a huge benefit for whatever team he plays for.
