The Telegraph believe Patrick Vieira could be on his way out of City in the summer, with the publication believing that, although his contract expires in three months, The Blues’ hierarchy are yet to offer him a new one, and they also have no talks planned, as of yet.
The Frenchman, currently in charge of the Elite Development Squad, a position he has held since May of 2013, is believed to be held in high regard by the people in high places at Eastlands, yet has still been linked with a move away. Indeed, many City fans believe he has the potential to be the new manager in the not-so-distant future, perhaps even the successor to Manuel Pellegrini (although that looks increasingly unlikely).
The former Arsenal and Internazionale midfielder has spent all of his retirement so far with The Blues, occupying first the role of Football Development Executive from mid-2011 up until his appointment as EDS manager almost two years ago. Since then, he has been a success in his role managing the second team, reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League in both of his first two seasons – an impressive feat for a new manager.
Reports in Germany have linked the French international with a move to Bayern Munich, but the Telegraph believe that this link stems no further than the four days Vieira spent at Bayern’s training ground last month, as a placement for part of his coaching qualifications.
Of course, just because talks may not have started yet, doesn’t mean they won’t soon. Hopefully, all parties will be keen to keep Vieira at City after the successes he’s had, even in the early parts of his career – with any luck, he’ll go on to have many more, with the reserve team and then hopefully with the senior team
