John Carver looks to have confirmed that City are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez this summer, after impressing in his first few months in England after singing from Tenerife last summer.
City have been linked with a number of high-profile players in recent weeks, and while Ayoze Perez may not be considered one of those by many, he is just 21 so would help out with the average squad age.
Speaking to the Newcastle Chronicle, Carver said “I’m not surprised [that there is interest]. He’s a young lad and an exciting talent.”
“I know for a fact there is interest. You go in coaches’ rooms after games and have a chat. A few people have spoken very highly of him, which is good.”
Carver even went as far as to confirm he’d talked about the young Spaniard with a member of City’s backroom staff, saying “I had a good chat with Brian Kidd at Man City about him.”
Whilst John Carver didn’t explicitly say there was interest in his young talent from The Blues, the fact that he mentioned Brian Kidd and City specifically could imply that City are in fact interested.
It has to be wondered what the point of signing Perez would be, were it not looking towards the future. The Spaniard is unlikely to displace Sergio Aguero from his spot in the team, and Dzeko and Bony are also likely to be preferred over the former Tenerife attacker.
Since making his Newcastle United debut against City at St. James’ Park back on the opening day of the season, Perez has gone on to make 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring 5 goals in the process, including winning goals against Tottenham and Liverpool, whilst also scoring at the Emirates.
