Both City and United have been quoted a £35 million price by Paris Saint-Germain for their midfielder Blaise Matuidi, with talkSPORT reporting both the Manchester sides are keen to bring the Frenchman to the Premier League after impressing this season in Ligue 1.
Both team is in dire need of a player like Matuidi, with United needing to refresh their team after a poor 18 months, whilst City need to be watching out for a possible replacement for Yaya Toure, who is aging and could leave the club soon regardless of his age.
PSG are in a position to negotiate for the midfielder, with the 27-year-old only having signed a contract last year, a deal which runs until 2018. Before signing a new contract he was linked with a move to City, but he eventually re-signed with the French side and has become very important to their trophy chase – he has missed just 2 of their 28 league games this year, and impressive and reliable ratio.
Of course, the large price-tag is likely to be off-putting (which is probably part of the reason PSG have slapped it on him), and coupled with his age it does appear to make a move less likely, with City reportedly keen on younger players to balance out the average squad age. However, with Paul Pogba seemingly staying at Juventus (at least, according to his agent), Matuidi could be City’s next-best option. However, they could face competition from their cross-city rivals for the midfielder, who arguably need him more than The Blues do.
