Martin Demichelis has penned a new contract with Manchester City, extending his stay until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
The Argentine, who arrived from Atletico Madrid prior to the 2013/14 season, endured a tough time in his first few months in England, yet has turned his City career around remarkably and now holds a key role in Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
There was a belief amongst some fans that the 34-year old would end his stint with City in the summer, but the former Bayern has put pen to paper and is delighted with his contract extension.
Speaking to the Club’s Official website, Demichelis said: “I want to say that I am really proud and happy to have extended my contract for another year.
“When you get to hold a trophy, it’s the best feeling for any player.
“I want to say that I will fight for this Club and for my teammates until the end of my contract. I will fight to try and win titles.”
Though he isn’t getting any younger, the Argentine does not rule of the possibility of staying with the club beyond 2015/16, something which should City well with City fans given how much he has improved since his early troubles.
” I had the experience of living in Germany for so many years, so it wasn’t difficult to adapt to living in England.” He revealed.
“We are happy here – my wife and son are happy here. We are trying to improve our English and I think that’s a good thing for our future.
“At this stage, I am enjoying playing week to week – you can never say what can happen in the future.
