Brendan Rodgers has almost certainly ruled out a switch to Manchester City this summer if Manuel Pellegrini is relieved of his role as manager, after expressing his commitment to Liverpool. Reports earlier in the week suggested he was second preference for the job behind Pep Guardiola, but now the Star believe he is off the list.
Firstly, Rodgers expressed that he wanted to see his deal out, saying “I’ve signed a deal here, and I want to be here to see that through.”
However, it’s not just City he can’t see himself joining – it’s other English clubs. “It is very difficult [to see himself at another English club]. Where do you go from Liverpool, one of the biggest clubs in the world? Where do you go?”
Talking of speculation, Rodgers said “it doesn’t distract me. I chose to come to Liverpool because I hoped I could be here for many years.”
Whilst that news may dishearten some City fans, it opens the door for other managers to be linked. Other reports this week suggested Diego Simeone is waiting to re-sign with Atletico Madrid because he could be interested in the City job, whilst Carlo Ancelotti has also been linked with a move to The Blues, despite winning the Champions League with Real Madrid just last season.
