The long-touted move of Pep Guardiola to England and Manchester City could come a lot earlier than expected if Bayern Munich manage to win their second Champions League title in three seasons this coming summer, with the Manchester Evening News reporting City could try and persuade the Spanish manager to make the move to Eastlands a year before his contract at the Allianz Arena expires in the summer of 2016.
Many are starting to hold the belief that Manuel Pellegrini won’t be the City manager next season, with the two recent losses against Barcelona and Liverpool typifying what’s gone wrong with City this season. The popular choices among City fans are mainly Guardiola or Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid, and most would be happy with either, both being the top-class managers that they are.
Understandably, City would have to pay a fair amount of compensation to bring Pep to Manchester in the coming summer, which means a move may just be out of the question. However, Pellegrini’s current deal runs until 2016, the same as Guardiola’s, and it could be convenient to keep Pellegrini on until next summer, or get someone in as a stop-gap until Guardiola becomes available – that’s if he doesn’t sign a new contract with Bayern, of course.
Pep Guardiola has faced City four times competitively as a manager, all with Bayern Munich. Of those, he has won two (3-1 in October 2013, 1-0 in September 2014) and lost two (3-2 in December 2013 and November 2014).
