After all his comments over the past 8 months or so, Yaya Touré’s agent Dimitri Seluk has spoken to the press again about his Ivorian client, this time saying he believes City should give the 31-year-old a new contract and guarantee him a post-retirement role with the club, according to the Express.
Dimitri Seluk, the agent who caused a lot of speculation surrounding Yaya’s future last summer, has firstly reassured City fans that despite the links of Yaya to Internazionale, the midfielder is in fact happy here, saying “Yaya loves Manchester City and, despite what is sometimes said, he is happy at the club.”
“In fact, he would like to stay for life. He would love nothing better than to finish his playing career with City and then work for the club after that.”
He then went on to explain how he feels Yaya deserves a new deal, saying “that’s why I want City to give Yaya a new contract, to show him that they want him to be part of the future. It is not about money.”
“It is about keeping Yaya at the club until his playing days are over and showing the club’s best player that he is respected and loved.”
However, it appears Seluk doesn’t just want Yaya to have a coaching job or some similar role with City, with his most interesting quote “when he stops playing, then Yaya could have an executive role, perhaps as sporting director. Think about it. He has played in Belgium, Ukraine, Greece, France, Spain and England.”
Whilst City would probably be happy to keep Touré on in some capacity, Seluk is probably being a bit ambitious with those hopes. However, these quotes do offer some reassurance that Yaya will be staying past this coming summer, just when it was starting to look like he could be on his way out. And given how much we missed him while he was at the AFCON, that is definitely a good thing.
