After he was left out of Pellegrini’s Champions League squad for the second half of the season, Stevan Jovetic has hit out at his manager in an interview with the Mirror.
Jovetic was recently dropped from the squad after a tough few months and with the arrival of Wilfried Bony, it was between Jovetic and Edin Dzeko to see who would be dropped from the squad for at least two games. The Montenegrin eventually ‘won’ that tussle, and was dropped for the newest signing.
Of the decision, Jovetic said “I deserve to play in the Champions League. I know that.”
The manager has killed me with this decision. I feel I deserve my place and other people have told me the same.”
“People have told me I am a great player, but it is clear that the manager doesn’t think the same way.”
“I am very disappointed, even now. I don’t think it was a good decision – or the right decision.
“I know that I deserve to be on the list. I told the manager this, but he didn’t want to listen to me. I came here to play in the Champions League.”
This could be a further hint that Jovetic could soon be on his way out of the club, with several clubs on the continent thought to be interested in him. Of the chance he could leave the club, Jovetic said “I have not made any decision about my future. I will wait until the summer then we will see.”
Jovetic has scored 5 goals in 15 league appearances in 2014-15.
