Frank Lampard has been lauded as having “class” by Stoke City manager Mark Hughes after the City midfielder swapped shirts with 17-year-old Oliver Shenton, who came on as a late substitute to make his Premier League debut for The Potters in City’s 4-1 win at the Britannia Stadium.
The game came just two days after the funeral of Shenton’s mother, Mandy, who died of cancer earlier this month, and Lampard, who lost his own mother in 2008, took it upon himself to seek out the young midfielder for a talk after the win on Wednesday, afterwards swapping shirts with Shenton.
Of the incident, Mark Hughes said, “that is a great touch. Obviously Frank has lost close family members as well and maybe that resonated with Frank. I think that shows his class.”
