So, the January transfer window came full of hype and left on a bit of whimper overall, but how did The Blues fair amidst 31 days of madness?
Bony is the only one that has come in and I for one can’t wait to see him in that famous sky blue shirt. His goals for Ivory Coast at the weekend shows what he can and will offer to us as soon as he’s back from the African Cup of Nations. The only irony being we needed him 2 months ago when we had 0 strikers, but still with the options up top for the last push, it’s far from over.
On the way out were a few kids on loan. It’s always important to get these players out on loan. The majority won’t make it City but if we can get some experience for them now, we can hopefully sell them on for what would be 100% profit in some cases. The academy will ultimately be judged on the number that make into the first team, but selling a few on the way will help cover costs.
On to Nastasic. The young defender who looked such a great prospect under Mancini. I thought he was very unlucky not to be in the top 3 young players of the Premier League season then, but since Pellegrini has come he’s not really featured. If the manager doesn’t rate him then he needs to be moved on. I disagree with the manager and felt we should have kept him, but let’s see what the summer brings.
Finally the if’s, but’s and maybe’s. From Lacazette to Messi, City are always linked with a host of players that give the sports editor of the red tops wet dreams. Realistically I would have liked to see us move for a left-back, another central midfielder and a creative option. FFP put a stop to that now, but the summer is a different story. Come in Aaron Cresswell, Paul Pogba and Marco Reus.
