City could be back in for Burnley’s Danny Ings, as they aim to challenge Liverpool’s and Chelsea’s bids for the striker according to the Manchester Evening News.
This story was originally reported a few days prior to the end of the January transfer window, but it looked like City might miss out on the Burnley man after Liverpool were strongly linked with taking him to Anfield for the second half of the season, rather than wait until the summer.
Of course, the logical move for City would be to wait until the summer when Ings’ Clarets contract runs out and he is free to find a new club with Chelsea also interested in signing the striker. Now that the transfer window has closed, clubs will have to wait until July to bring him in, but without the club to deal with, City merely have to convince the Englishman to move to Eastlands and not Merseyside or London.
The MEN believe the primary reason for City reportedly wanting to sign Ings is to increase the number of young homegrown players in the squad. The Burnley man is just 22 at the moment, and has been fairly prolific since he signed on at Turf Moor in 2011.
However, with the recent signing of Wilfried Bony, one has to question what his motives for moving to City would be, when he’s likely to be paid just as much somewhere else and play more often than he’s likely to be at City.
