Roberto Mancini has further fuelled speculation he wants Inter Milan to move for Yaya Toure in the summer with his latest quotes to the Italian press, which have been relayed by numerous English sources including the Mail and the Telegraph.
Mancini looked set to try and capitalise on speculation Yaya still wasn’t happy at City after a difficult year, when he said “we’ll see” in terms of whether he would be at City next year in an interview with CNN earlier in the month. This gave rise to more speculation he was ready to leave City, and Internazionale were one of the clubs subsequently linked with him, with the link between Mancini and Yaya still strong after their spell together at City.
Quoted in the Italian publication Il Giornale, Mancini said of the Ivorian, “Yaya is one of the strongest players in the world.”
The current Inter manager also believes Yaya should come to Italy, saying “He has played in so many teams. He has been in leagues in Belgium, Russia, Spain and England. Italy is the one missing. This could be the right opportunity for him to come and try.”
Perhaps most importantly however, Mancini revealed that he thought the midfielder could help them achieve their goals, saying “we are building a team. There are players that change the look of a team, and Yaya is one of them.”
This comes just days after the Inter president Erick Trohir ruled out a move for the 31-year-old, citing his age as a reason for not wanting to bring the former Barcelona man to Serie A.
It was also reported in the Mirror last week that Yaya would have to take a 50% cut of his current £180,000 per week wages if he were to join the Italian side.
