City are hoping to beat both Manchester United and Chelsea in the race for Paul Pogba, by hoping to use Stevan Jovetic as a makeweight in a deal to sign the French midfielder who’s been touted with a move away from the club in recent weeks, according to the Daily Star.
Jovetic was also linked with a move to Juventus in the first few days of the transfer window, and whilst that speculation has quietened down since then, it is still thought his availability could sway Juventus towards accepting City’s offer rather than Chelsea’s or United’s.
Juve are likely to be well aware of Jovetic’s dangerous past in Serie A, having scored almost a goal every three games whilst he was with Fiorentina, a ratio that brought him to the attentions of City in the summer of 2013.
However, his move to City hasn’t been a massive success, and with rumours he could be leaving in the summer anyway, using him as a makeweight in a deal to sign Pogba seems like a sensible option to take, given how long Pogba could be at the club for.
