Inter Milan’s president has spoken to Mediaset Premium about speculation surrounding a possible deal to bring Yaya Toure to Serie A. Whilst Roberto Mancini is keen to take Yaya to the continent having already worked with him at City, the Inter president Erick Trohir has moved to deny there is interest from Internazionale.
There has been reports in recent days that Inter wanted to take Yaya to the San Siro after he made his latest claim he wasn’t happy at Eastlands in a recent interview in CNN. The Mirror reported on Saturday however that Toure would have to take a 50% pay-cut to join the Italians, indicating that perhaps the link was a bit far-fetched.
Now, the incumbent president Trohir has come out in the press to deny they have interest in signing the Ivorian, with the Indonesian businessman favouring looking to the future, rather than signing players coming to the end of their prime.
Trohir spoke of Yaya, saying “he is a great player, but you have to wonder if bringing him to our team is the right thing to do.”
“We want to sign players for at least three years, not two.”
Yaya will turn 32 in May, which means age will be a big factor whenever a team thinks about making a bid for him. He’s coming to the end of his best years, and with a current deal of £180,000 per week, he probably also has to be willing to negotiate on that, for most clubs will be unwilling to pay that for a player who might not have long left on his deal.
City will not be forced to sell up, even if Yaya does want to leave. He still has over two years on his contract, meaning The Blues can take their time before they decide to let him go.
