City have been involved in some very unusual news stories over the years, but this latest from the Daily Mail is certainly high on the list: they are reporting that in the last five years City spent at their Carrington training ground, the club had to call the police to the grounds for a variety of strange reasons.
City moved to the City Football Academy near The Etihad in late 2014, but encountered a lot of trouble in their final years at Carrington.
Whilst there are minor reports of crimes such as a man relieving himself on a grass verge in the Carrington grounds, escalating to incidents such as the egging of the reception area, there are some rather more interesting incidents that caused the authorities to be alerted.
For example, back in 2012, a man thought to be a City fan was arrested whilst watching the team train from up a tree, whilst he was on the run from a burglary he committed.
In another incident, on the day City lost the derby at Old Trafford back in February 2011, a group of United fans followed the City coach back to Carrington, hurling abuse at it after Rooney gave them the win. The police were again called, but the fans fled before the police arrived.
Perhaps the most interesting incident however, is the reports that the police were called after a group of youths were spotted close to the training ground, mooning CCTV cameras and carrying an instrument that looked a lot like a javelin. That happened just three days after Vincent Kompany scored that header from a corner to give City their derby win over United that set them on course for the title in 2012.
Those are some of the more interesting stories that have been reported by the Mail, but unfortunately it looks like we may not be getting many more, given how secure the new CFA is. Guess we’ll just have to get entertainment from on the pitch instead.
