City are confident that their financial power will help them land Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus in the summer, even with a buyout clause of £20 million in his Dortmund contract, according to the Daily Star.
It is believed Reus is right at the top of City’s summer shopping list, but unfortunately for The Blues he is likely to be a priority for many of the other top European clubs linked with a move. Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been linked with trying to persuade him to move to the Premier League, whilst Real Madrid and Barcelona want him to move to Spain. Bayern Munich have also been heavily linked with a move that would see him stay in Germany.
The winger will have a release clause in his contract from this summer that means he can leave Borussia Dortmund for just £20 million; a price many will feel is a steal.
However, that price means that there is a lot of clubs willing to pay it, and it could well come down to wages. It is believed City are willing to pay Reus up to £200,000 per week to get him to join The Blues, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the squad.
With Dortmund having struggled so far this season, Reus could easily be tempted into agreeing a move away to further his career. BVB currently sit second from bottom in the Bundesliga, and almost certainly won’t get European football this season; most of the clubs bidding for him will be able to offer that.
Reus has scored 47 goals in 99 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund since he signed from Gladbach in the summer of 2012, and has also scored 7 in 23 for the German national team.
