Latest City team news

Maresca has travelled with a 22-man squad, with Nico O’Reilly and Jérémy Doku the two notable absentees.

O’Reilly missed Saturday’s 1-0 win over Coventry after reporting a back problem during the warm-up. Maresca delivered some good news on Monday night by saying the 21-year-old will “probably” be available for Sunday’s Manchester derby, so his absence tonight appears to be precautionary rather than anything long-term.

Doku is also back working towards fitness following the calf injury he suffered in the Community Shield, although Maresca admitted he is still unsure whether the Belgian will be ready for Manchester United.

There could be some rotation elsewhere too. Erling Haaland has played every available minute so far this season and Maresca admitted in Porto that he will need to find opportunities to give his striker a rest.

Gianluigi Donnarumma, Rúben Dias, Marc Guéhi, Enzo Fernández, Iliman Ndiaye, Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo and Phil Foden are among those who have made the trip.

City’s full 22-man travelling squad is:

Donnarumma, Dias, Anderson, Guéhi, Ndiaye, Kovačić, Haaland, Cherki, Bettinelli, Fernández, Aït-Nouri, Reis, Gvardiol, Nunes, Rulli, Bouaddi, Allan Elias, Semenyo, Khusanov, Foden, McAidoo, Lewis.

What Maresca said about Porto

Maresca is expecting a difficult night against a Porto side who have started the season in excellent form.

The City boss highlighted their strength at set-pieces and the difficulty of playing at the Dragão, with Porto boasting an impressive recent European record on home soil.

City will nevertheless arrive in Portugal with some momentum of their own. Three Premier League games have brought three victories, and tonight offers the first look at Maresca’s side on the Champions League stage.

Kick-off is at 8pm BST.
