Man City v Coventry: Seven key stats before today’s game

City will look to make it three Premier League wins from three when newly-promoted Coventry visit the Etihad this afternoon.

Enzo Maresca’s side have made a perfect start, while Frank Lampard’s Coventry are still searching for their first point and first league goal.

Here are seven numbers worth knowing before the 3pm kick-off.

1. Six points from six

City have beaten Bournemouth 2-1 and Crystal Palace 4-1.

Victory today would make it three Premier League wins from three under Maresca.

2. Haaland already has four

Erling Haaland has scored four of City’s six league goals this season.

He struck twice against Bournemouth and followed that with another brace at Palace.

3. Coventry are still waiting

Coventry lost 3-0 at Arsenal before suffering a 1-0 home defeat against Hull.

Two Premier League games have therefore brought no points and no goals, although they did beat Plymouth 4-2 in the Carabao Cup.

4. City lead the overall record 34-21

This will be the 74th competitive meeting between the clubs.

City have won 34 of the previous 73, Coventry 21, with 18 draws.

5. Eight Premier League meetings without a City win

Here’s the surprising one.

City won the first two Premier League meetings in 1992/93 but failed to win any of the next eight.

Coventry won four of those games, with the other four ending level.

6. It’s been 24 years

The clubs haven’t met since March 2002.

Kevin Keegan’s City won 4-2 at Maine Road that afternoon, with Shaun Wright-Phillips scoring twice.

City went on to win the First Division title and return to the Premier League.

7. Lampard has won four of his last 32 Premier League games

Coventry’s manager has won just four of his last 32 matches in the competition across spells with Chelsea and Coventry.

His record during that sequence is four wins, eight draws and 20 defeats.

History provides Coventry with some encouragement against City.

The more recent numbers suggest this afternoon could be rather more difficult.
