Maresca makes ‘fantastic’ Ayyoub Bouaddi claim after Man City impact

Ayyoub Bouaddi Man City

Enzo Maresca believes Ayyoub Bouaddi has the ability to make those around him better after the teenager impressed for City against PSG.

Bouaddi was introduced at half-time on Wednesday with City trailing the European champions 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium. The midfielder helped Maresca’s side produce a much-improved second-half display, although PSG eventually secured a 4-2 Champions League victory.

The 18-year-old’s contribution clearly impressed his manager, who delivered a glowing assessment ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Ipswich Town.

Maresca praises Bouaddi influence

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Maresca told the official Manchester City website that Bouaddi’s influence goes beyond his individual contribution.

“Ayyoub is a fantastic player. The good thing about Ayyoub is that when he is inside the pitch, he improves the ones around him.”

Maresca suggested that ability is a characteristic of top players, with team-mates capable of raising their level when playing alongside them.

Bouaddi showed both composure and technical quality after replacing Rayan Cherki against PSG, playing an important role as City attempted to recover from a difficult first half.

His performance gives Maresca another selection option as he considers how to manage his squad during a demanding run of fixtures. The City boss acknowledged on Friday that several regular starters will need rest at different stages after featuring heavily for club and country.

Whether Bouaddi has done enough to start against Ipswich remains to be seen, but Maresca’s assessment underlines the impression the youngster is making during his first months at City.
