Alan Brazil claims Man City could face huge 60-point deduction

City could be facing a 60-point deduction following the guilty findings against them, according to talkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil.

The former Scotland international said on Wednesday morning that sources in Manchester had given him that figure as discussion continues over what punishment could ultimately follow the independent commission’s findings.

“I’m hearing 60-point deduction,” Brazil said on talkSPORT.

He added that he had been told “a lot of people wouldn’t think that’s enough”, underlining the strength of feeling surrounding the case. There has been no official confirmation that a 60-point penalty has been proposed or decided, however, and Brazil did not identify the sources behind the information.

Man City punishment remains undecided

Attention has increasingly turned towards what sanction could eventually be imposed on Man City following the commission’s findings. City are challenging those findings through the appeals process and continue to dispute the case against them.

That makes Brazil’s 60-point figure an unconfirmed claim rather than an indication that such a punishment has already been determined. The number is nevertheless striking. A 60-point deduction would be on an entirely different scale to previous points penalties imposed in the Premier League and would have major consequences if applied during a single season.

Debate over the severity of City’s eventual punishment has intensified since the commission’s findings became public, with reports suggesting some rival clubs believe even a sanction resulting in one season outside the Premier League would not be sufficient.

Brazil’s comments add another figure to that debate, but there is currently no official indication that 60 points is the punishment City will receive.

For now, that number should be treated for what it is: a claim attributed by the talkSPORT presenter to unnamed sources in Manchester.
