Man City teenager Xavier Parker named among Premier League’s best young talents

City teenager Xavier Parker has been named by The Guardian as one of the best young prospects at Premier League clubs after an impressive rise through the academy.

The 16-year-old midfielder has been selected for the newspaper’s Next Generation 2026 list, which identifies one emerging talent from each of the 20 top-flight clubs. For Man City, Parker’s inclusion follows a year in which he has moved increasingly close to the senior picture.

Parker’s rise at Manchester City

The London-born midfielder joined City from West Ham in 2024 and established himself in the Under-18 side last season. City’s own records credit Parker with six goals and seven assists from 21 appearances as the academy won the Under-18 Premier League North title and FA Youth Cup.

His progress earned him a place on Enzo Maresca’s first-team tour of Asia during the summer, where he was the youngest member of the travelling squad. City describe Parker as an attack-minded midfielder capable of operating as a number eight or 10, while he has also been used further forward.

The step up has continued this season. Parker scored twice in the 4-1 EFL Trophy victory over Mansfield Town in August, finding the net twice inside five first-half minutes on his debut in the competition. He also scored in City’s opening Premier League 2 victory over Wolves.

The Guardian recognition, therefore, comes with Parker already beginning to make his mark above the Under-18 level.

While it is always unwise to rush conclusions about a player who is only 16, the direction of travel is clear. A senior pre-season tour and an impressive introduction to EDS football have followed a trophy-winning season.

Parker’s inclusion among the Premier League’s leading young talents is another marker of that progress.
