Enzo Maresca set for Man City squad talks after guilty verdict

Enzo Maresca is reportedly planning to address his Man City players over the club’s Premier League guilty verdict when the squad reconvenes after the international break.

According to The Times, the City head coach intends to speak to his players on Thursday, when the majority of those away with their countries are expected to return to the City Football Academy. It would be the first opportunity for Maresca to address most of his squad together since the independent commission’s decision became public.

Maresca turns attention back to football

City were found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League. The club disputes the findings and has made clear that it intends to appeal. The case will therefore continue, but Maresca has the more immediate matter of preparing his players for the return of Premier League football.

City travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday, leaving the head coach with only a short period to work with those returning from international duty. The Times also reports there are no concerns over Erling Haaland’s fitness after the striker was substituted during Norway’s Nations League game against Portugal.

Norway manager Stale Solbakken indicated afterwards that Haaland was exhausted rather than injured, easing any immediate concern over his availability for Liverpool. Maresca has largely been able to keep events away from the pitch separate from his work with the team since succeeding Pep Guardiola in the summer.

His reported squad meeting on Thursday will bring those two worlds together before the focus switches to Anfield.
