Rui Pinto claims he holds unreleased Man City files after guilty verdict

Football Leaks founder Rui Pinto has claimed he still possesses a significant amount of unpublished material relating to Manchester City following the Premier League commission’s verdict.

Pinto, whose Football Leaks disclosures led to extensive reporting on Man City’s financial affairs, issued a statement after the independent commission found the club guilty of serious breaches of Premier League financial rules.

City reject the findings and intend to appeal.

Rui Pinto says further Man City material remains unpublished

Pinto said the commission’s findings supported the significance of information previously obtained through Football Leaks.

He also claimed more material remains in his possession.

“I still hold a significant amount of unreleased material related to Manchester City,” Pinto said, adding that it contained information that could be “highly relevant”.

The Portuguese whistleblower went further in his criticism of City’s executives, making allegations of “cheating, lying and manipulation”. Those are Pinto’s words and allegations rather than established findings expressed in those terms by the commission.

Pinto was behind the Football Leaks disclosures, which resulted in millions of confidential documents relating to clubs, agents and football authorities entering the public domain. Documents concerning City were subsequently reported extensively by Der Spiegel.

The Premier League’s case was ultimately determined by an independent commission on the evidence presented during its proceedings.

Pinto’s latest statement does not establish what his unpublished material contains, whether the Premier League has previously seen it or whether it could have any bearing on City’s appeal.

For now, it is a claim of further evidence from the man behind the original Football Leaks disclosures rather than a new development in the legal proceedings themselves.
