Antoine Semenyo has revealed what was said in the Man City dressing room after Sunday’s 5-3 win over Sunderland.
City made it five Premier League wins from five at the Etihad, with Semenyo scoring twice as Enzo Maresca’s side went into the international break three points clear at the top.
Semenyo reveals Man City dressing-room message
Semenyo said the players had spoken after the game about how quickly things have come together under Maresca.
“We just said in the changing rooms, seven or eight weeks we’ve been together now, so it’s not been too long, but we’re doing well,” he told the Manchester Evening News. “We’re winning our games and we’ll keep improving.”
There has been plenty of change at City since the end of last season, with Maresca replacing Pep Guardiola and several players arriving and leaving. Semenyo was one of the new faces, joining from Bournemouth in the summer.
He has not taken long to settle. His two goals against Sunderland were his first for City and helped make it seven successive wins in all competitions since the Community Shield defeat by Arsenal.
Semenyo is enjoying being part of it but knows five league games is no time to start getting carried away.
“Everyone feels good. I mean, it’s where we want to be,” he said. “We’re not going to get too complacent, too relaxed. We know that there’s a lot more games to go. And yeah, we just want to continue winning. So just have to keep going.”
