Man City close in on Geronimo Rulli deal after James Trafford exit

City are closing in on a deal to sign Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Talks between the two clubs are progressing, with the Argentina international now viewed as a possible replacement for James Trafford.

Trafford completed his medical ahead of a move to Leeds United on Thursday, with the Championship winners agreeing a deal worth £40m plus add-ons for the goalkeeper.

The 23-year-old leaves City having never made a senior appearance for the club, but his development has earned him a move that represents a significant return for the academy graduate.

Romano also reported that Lucas Perri is expected to join Torino, leaving Rulli as the leading candidate to arrive at the Etihad this summer.

The 33-year-old has extensive European experience and was part of Argentina’s squad that won the 2022 World Cup. He joined Marseille from Ajax in 2023 and has since established himself as a regular in Ligue 1.

City are yet to complete an agreement for Rulli, but negotiations are understood to be moving in the right direction as they look to finalise their goalkeeping options before the new season.

With Trafford on the verge of leaving and Perri also set for an exit, the position is one of the areas being reshaped by new manager Enzo Maresca during the summer window.
