Man City news and talking points: Transfer movement from Wed, 29 July

It was one of the busiest days of the summer so far for Man City news, with the touring party arriving in Asia just as the transfer market shifted into gear back home — an exit request, a familiar suitor for Rodri, and City closing in on one of their most important signings of the window.

Here’s a round-up of everything we’ve covered on ReadManCity today.

City’s Asia tour begins

The squad landed in Hong Kong ahead of Enzo Maresca’s first away test as head coach, with the Italian naming a 28-man party for Saturday’s opener against Inter Milan at Kai Tak Stadium. Several first-team regulars remain on extended rest following the World Cup, giving fringe players and academy prospects a chance to impress before the group reaches full strength.

Savinho tells City he wants out

In the biggest development of the day, Savinho has formally told City he wants to leave this summer, reviving a move to Tottenham that looked all but done two weeks ago before talks quietly stalled. The fee remains the sticking point, with reports ranging from £43m to £70m depending on the outlet.

Real Madrid make their move for Rodri

Real Madrid have opened direct talks over a deal for Rodri, according to Fabrizio Romano, following months of hesitation from president Florentino Pérez. City are expected to hold out for more than the €50m Madrid have indicated they’re willing to pay.

That pursuit may not be straightforward on Madrid’s side either — we also looked at how their move for Rodri appears tied to first selling Eduardo Camavinga, a player City themselves were linked with only weeks ago.

Bouaddi deal edges closer

City are reportedly confident of finalising a deal for Ayyoub Bouaddi within days, with the timing of his arrival potentially tied to how the Rodri situation resolves.

McFarlane out on loan

Elsewhere, defender Christian McFarlane joined Leicester City on a season-long loan, giving the 19-year-old a first taste of regular first-team football in League One.

We’ll continue to bring you the latest City news, transfer updates and analysis throughout the week as Maresca’s first pre-season tour gets underway.
