Pierce Charles is undergoing a Manchester City medical after the club agreed a deal with Sheffield Wednesday for the Northern Ireland goalkeeper.
Football Insider reports that the 20-year-old has travelled to Manchester ahead of a permanent move, with Pete O’Rourke also reporting that a deal is in place.
Charles came through City’s academy before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2021. He has since built senior experience at Hillsborough and made 21 appearances last season.
The move has been developing for several days. Read Man City previously covered how City had agreed a deal for Pierce Charles, while an earlier update explained how City were making progress in their move for the former academy keeper.
Charles Move Fits City’s Goalkeeper Planning
Charles is unlikely to arrive as an immediate first-choice option.
This looks more like a squad and pathway signing. City know his background, his development profile and the value of adding another young goalkeeper with first-team football behind him.
TEAMtalk reported last week that City had agreed personal terms with Charles, with the deal moving towards its final stages.
The medical now takes the transfer closer to completion.
For City, it gives the goalkeeping department another controllable asset. For Charles, it offers a return to familiar surroundings after proving himself in senior football.
