- Phil Foden impressed by Antoine Semenyo
- Speaks on winger’s adaptivity
- Offers player of the season verdict
Phil Foden has revealed what it has been like playing alongside Antoine Semenyo, detailing how he has been left surprised by the 26-year-old.
Everybody already knew just how good Antoine Semenyo was when he was snatched up by Manchester City.
The forward bagged 16 Premier League goal contributions for Bournemouth last season, and he was not far off matching this record by January this year.
Semenyo has already added six league scores to his tally since joining Man City, and his best effort yet came in the FA Cup final.
Receiving a cross from Erling Haaland, Semenyo tried a first-time backheeled shot which could not have landed any further into the bottom left corner.
Phil Foden surprised by Antoine Semenyo at Man City
Semenyo’s goal left everyone speechless. Well, except for the City fans, who were going wild after the ball struck the net.
And this is just one of the many good things the Ghana international has done since joining the Citizens.
He is impressing all his teammates, including Phil Foden, who branded his goal ‘unbelievable’.
“Honestly, I didn’t see it live, I just missed it,” Foden told Sky Sports. “And I see it on the replay, what a finish!”
Speaking on why Semenyo has surprised him, Foden said: “No, it’s not easy when you’re a new player coming into Manchester City, and I think he’s adapted so quickly and surprised me as well.
“He’s a fantastic player, such a goal threat. It’s lovely to have him in the team and to play with him.”
Semenyo has been nominated for the player of the year award
Thanks to Semenyo’s terrific displays, he recently received a Premier League player of the year nomination, alongside Erling Haaland.
Should Arsenal win the league, it makes Semenyo a less likely candidate to win the award, but he is still in the running for now.
Saturday’s contribution will unfortunately not count towards it, as the goal was scored in a different competition.
However, Semenyo has delivered plenty of strong Premier League performances, impressing for two different clubs.
On Semenyo’s player of the year nomination, Foden added: “Well I think he’s up there. There’s obviously been a few great candidates, but yeah, he’s definitely got to be up there.”
The best is yet to come from Semenyo
While Semenyo has made a quick start to life at Man City, he has had a few recent appearances which have been a little quiet.
At times, the star has rarely found himself on the ball out on the right wing, with Jeremy Doku having a much greater impact on the opposite side.
Despite this, Semenyo has shown exactly what he is capable of when provided with service, and he is still only just getting started.
The 26-year-old will keep growing into the team and the players around him should be able to assist in taking his game to the next level.
